Foreclosures are spelling opportunities not only for nest builders and investors but also for Wild Coyotes. They are taking over some of the Repossessed Houses.

A stumbling human economy sends out chain reactions in rippling waves. It is now reaching out beyond the human genus. The wildlife experts of Florida have found that it is also telling on the behaviour of coyotes.

As per the observations of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, coyotes roam around through urban localities during spring as they hunt for food for their newborn pups. This year the pattern is slightly different. These wild coyotes that are very similar to dogs, have found their new home addresses in abandoned human houses. Breanne Strepina a wildlife biologist for the wildlife commission said, “The coyote’s local watering hole may have dried up, so it has to move to find water elsewhere, often in retention and golf course ponds. The increase in abandoned homes in foreclosure, with overgrown vegetation, attracts coyotes, providing good hiding places close to food and water.” However she added that there is no cause for “for immediate concern just because someone sees a coyote in the neighborhood … coyotes have lived in and among humans in urban settings for many years with little fanfare.”

To avoid confrontation and escalation of problems the officials of the state have started pressing residents to undertake protective and proactive measures. The potential attractants like garbage bins should be removed from the yard. The coyotes generally prowl around during the twilight hours of dawn and dusk. Thus residents should avoid going around with small animals during that time. Moreover they should always carry a flashlight, a stick like a golf club and something with which noises can be made. This would frighten away the coyotes or any other wild animal that are hunting for food and water.

A wildlife alert help line has been set up (888-404-3922) to assist the residents.

Nature has a cunning way of creeping back to regain her lost empire, as she hates vacuum. As man fights man leaving behind vacant foreclosed houses Nature comes back. The first ones are the termites and rats. Snakes chase frogs in abandoned pools as mosquitoes multiply. Weeds begin to choke delicate plants in gardens. Soon a fierce fence of bramble and thorns encircle human habitation allowing the birds and bats to return as the debate rages on in Washington.
