The foreclosure gaffe of James Carabelli continues to hold centre stage although the worthy Republican county chairperson repeatedly shakes his head and says that he had never said anything about keeping foreclosure victims off the voting list. The incident took a nasty turn with Democrats filing a lawsuit to stop such a thing from happening. Livid with anger Carabelli is threatening to sue for libel.

On Tuesday last, Carabelli again denied that he had told a correspondent of MichiganMessenger.com “we will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses.” The web reported this. Carabelli plans to ask retraction in writing and will otherwise proceed with filing of libel suit in Macomb County Circuit Court.

Carabelli was loud in his protestations that the story is untrue and that “the Michigan Messenger made it up.” He repeated “Let me state, again and unequivocally, there is no such plan to use foreclosure lists”. He accused the liberal leaning site of using this blog as a tool in the hands of Obama campaigners to malign him and the Republicans.

The state branch of the Republican Party asked MichiganMessenger.com to go ahead with the printing of a retraction. But the reporter of the website is adamant and sticking to the authenticity of the story.

Reacting to the libel suit, David Bennahum of The Center for Independent Media, based in Washington said that the easiest way out when facts and needs collide is to claim that these are untrue. This group runs MichiganMessenger.com and five other web sites. He claimed that their sites have “a fantastic record for accuracy.”

On Tuesday a suit was filed at the federal court of Detroit by Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several voters from Macomb County. They wanted an injunction stopping the GOP of Macomb County, the Michigan Republican Party, The Republican National Committee or anyone to challenge the voters of Michigan whose names are on the foreclosure lists.

Bob Bauer of Obama campaign interacted with the reporters stating that lose-you-home-lose-your-vote strategy creates a mood of confrontation and fear that may well make voters shy away from the polling booths.

The Republican officials of the state hotly deny that any such plans are afoot arguing that the whole thing is illogical because foreclosure lists do not state the address of the voters. It only exposes the desperation of the Obama bloc.
