From Monday night those in Maryland who need help or know of anyone facing foreclosure trouble there is good news. Tom Perez, the secretary of Maryland Department of Licensing, Labor and Regulation, said that there are too many people in nearly every nook and corner of Maryland being battered by Foreclosures. He added that the ‘people are suffering in silence’. He wanted to let the victims know that help is around the corner. It is not inevitable that one has to succumb to repos. There are many options available. Maryland was clear in it response to the call for help from foreclosure attacks.

A community foreclosure forum will be held at the Weinberg Center for the Arts on West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick. It is just one of the many such forums being held across the state. The problem is that most of the people facing foreclosures are too traumatized and feel too humiliated to come forward to battle the issue. They also do not know where to turn to in their hour of need. DLLR and the Department of Housing and Community Development organized the forum. It was part of initiatives taken by the Governor of Maryland, Martin O’ Malley. An emergency legislation has been passed to tackle the rising swell of foreclosures. Part of the endeavours is to educate the people about the implications of foreclosures and importance of budgeting. Financial education is being given great importance. The local authorities are going all out to address the issue. No move is considered either too small or too big.

At the forum top official Perez will discuss legislation. Also in attendance with their remarks will be Commissioners President Jan Gardner and the Mayor of Frederick Jeff Holtzinger.

The forum will be of invaluable to the residents of Frederick – those faced with foreclosures or about to do so. Hotsinger opined that taking into consideration the number of foreclosures being anticipated, this service is of vital importance.

All across the country the local bodies are not waiting for the federal government to bestir itself but are taking the bull by the horns to the best of its capacity. Help agencies are being set up, funds are being created and educational programmes are being run to make the people understand the importance and implications of repo homes. Despite this the numbers are telling the same story however – foreclosures are rising.
