Florida continues to hold on to its top ranking position in the national foreclosure race. But realtors are turning the tide into an opportunity by conducting bus tours to lure in potential buyers.

Bus tours have become quite common but what is unique is that some realtors are offering free bus trips that many will find unable to resist. Hilda Garcia is one of them. She has waived the usual fee of $70. She has teamed up with a mortgage broker and another title company to offer these tours to qualified buyers. The team pool in their funds, rent the bus and then advertises in newspapers. Lunch on board is also free. The scheme seems to be paying dividends.

One pair found their dream house when the bus made its first halt. The unit which had been priced for $200,000 was lucky to be taken off the shop shelf for $135,000. The bus tours are being persuasive in a bleak economic climate – turning the negative into positive. It is the law of Nature that somebody’s loss is invariably another person’s gain. This time of course people are on the alert. Everybody is seeing that when they move into a house it continues to remain their homes for years to come.

Garcia is optimistic that her free foreclosure bus trips will help the real estate business to start running again. In all probability it will put some buyers who are budget conscious, into houses of their own.

In Florida one out of 95 houses are in repos. Protests are growing. ACORN of Florida set up temporary tents outside the Capitol raising their voices against predatory lending. The tenting complex was supposed to stand for the sub-prime city! They want stronger action from the governor.

Meanwhile the people are doing their bit of helping each other by organizing these bus tours. Approximately there are two dozen passengers who file through the empty houses peering into every nook and corner, pulling drawers, opening cabinets and trying out the windows. They minutely assess the repairs done and yet to be done. There are experts on board the bus to help them with building and legal technicalities. Deals can be made on the spot. There are many who are now in a position to take advantage of the weak dollar. The bus stops only near vacant houses so that the owners of occupied houses are not embarrassed.
