Foreclosure Notice for Parking Violation

Though strange, the story runs that foreclosure notice for parking violation was issued by the city authorities to a man named Peter Tubic in Milwaukee. The Mayor of Milwaukee, Tom Barrett instantly offered to help the man who had lost his house due to foreclosure, and that also because he failed to pay a city parking ticket of $50. The story was unusual and so the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Public Investigation team made an in-depth study of the case. The Mayor showed interest in the Tubic house foreclosure case.
Investigations revealed that Peter Tubic, aged 62, had parked a van in his driveway in 2004. The van unfortunately did not have a license plate, and so was given the ticket. It was a penalty of $50, which he failed to pay in spite of several follow-up notices issued to him during the year. The fine accumulated to a total of $2645 over the years. The city authorities finally decided to foreclosure Tubic’s house in the month of August. According to the special deputy city treasurer Jim Klajbor, the city authorities were not interested to take over a small holding of land from Tubic, and had decided on the house foreclosure as a last resort to recover their dues.
Mayor Barrett was highly antagonized at the incident and remarked that while one was bound by duty and the rules and regulations, its implementation was highly unusual. Foreclosing on a house was the last resort in the hands of the authorities and when residents avoid enforcements they end up with such unwanted situations.
Circuit Judge, Richard Sankovitz of Milwaukee County had passed judgment in favour of the city authorities on house foreclosure but stayed implementation of the same to give one last opportunity to Peter Tubic to exonerate himself for not paying the fine and not responding to the notices failing which his house will be foreclosed on.
Tubic confessed to his faults and knew of the warning that his house faced imminent foreclosure in case he did not respond, but claimed that his physical infirmities did not enable him to react positively.
The Social Security Administration confirmed that Tubic had been diagnosed as having psychological disorders, which limited his ability to “understand, remember and carry out detailed instructions” since 2001.He was also afflicted with other degenerative diseases as well, the association added.
Mayor Barrett wished to step in on the house foreclosure issue of Tubic on humanitarian grounds.
